SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23

Snyder and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Requesting the West Virginia division of natural resources to
rename Summit Lake, Nicholas County, West Virginia, the "Carl
E. Gainer Lake".
Whereas, Summit Lake, Nicholas County, West Virginia, was
developed in 1955. It is named Summit Lake because of its location
at the top of a mountain with an elevation of over three thousand
feet; and
Whereas, The Honorable Carl E. Gainer, a former member of the
Senate of West Virginia, a former commissioner with the division of
natural resources and a prominent Nicholas County businessman, was
instrumental in the development and completion of the Summit Lake
project, which today spans forty-three acres in Greenbrier and
Nicholas counties; and
Whereas, As a fitting tribute to a man who has given much to
his county and state by his membership in the Senate of West
Virginia, his service as a commissioner with the division of
natural resources and as a businessman whose influence in his
community has brought about change for the betterment of all the citizens, including the development of Summit Lake, the name of
Summit Lake should be renamed the "Carl E. Gainer Lake"; therefore,
be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Legislature hereby requests the West Virginia
division of natural resources to rename Summit Lake, Nicholas
County, West Virginia, as the "Carl E. Gainer Lake", in tribute to
a man who has contributed much to the state of West Virginia as a
member of the Senate of West Virginia, a commissioner with the
division of natural resources and a prominent Nicholas County
businessman; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the director of
the West Virginia division of natural resources.
